Starlings at Pilot’s Tower

Posted by: prince vince In: Nature Watch

p towerOn Sunday, having had a mammoth bottled ale sampling session the previous night, (conclusion: we liked them all, but Gentleman Jack, at a quid a bottle from Asda, stood up well in more sophisticated company), we took our hangovers for a walk along the beach. We trudged along the strand line, as far as the pier. A small flock of (we think) ringed plovers flew up off the beach ahead of us, and headed out to sea. And with fresh seaspray on the lense, we filmed a small flock of starlings flying around the Pilot’s Tower and the pier. The starlings are not present here in spectacular numbers as elsewhere, but in a way, they are just as fascinating to watch in smaller numbers, as you can keep track of there movements more effectively, and not get so bamboozled.

Incidentally, the enigmatic, abandoned Pilot’s Tower is rumoured to suffer from concrete cancer, and is likely to be demolished when work on the areas redevelopment gets underway. We at S&G will miss this landmark building.
